Adobe Reader throws an application error that says "Cannot find or create the font ' * ' . Some characters may not display or print correctly.

This article attempts to explain why these issues might occur and how to resolve.

This issue can occur when someone sends over a PDF file that contains fonts that the version of Adobe you are using does not have the the fonts locally. 

Solution

Edit - Preferences (or Ctrl+K) - Page Display - UNCHECK "Use local fonts".
